Mónica Martínez was born in Barcelona, Spain, in 1972. After high school she gained a Graduated Degree in Illustration at the School of Applied Arts and Design Llotja in 1994. Since then she is been illustrating books, brochures, posters, magazines, t-shirts, etc. She also created the environmental animated cartoon character 'Pipsqueak' that has been shown on TV all over the world.

Monica has been teaching animation for illustration students at the School or Art and Design Massana, and illustration and painting at civic centres. In 2005, she decided to change her life completely and move to the
Southern Hemisphere. Following her intuition she ended up in Golden Bay, NZ, where she has lived since 2006 and where she now paints, makes ceramic sculptures and illustrates.
